A Historic Night in Denmark: The First Official CSWC Oliva Competition Lights Up the Records

History was written in Copenhagen. The first-ever official CSWC competition with the brand-new CSWC Oliva cigar took place — and it was nothing short of monumental.

With 60 competitors, Denmark delivered a massive, high-level competition that not only set the tone for the 2025 season but became a defining moment in CSWC history. Why? Because this was the test — the world was watching. Everyone was waiting to see how the new official CSWC cigar would perform under real pressure, in the hands of real competitors. And Denmark gave the answer loud and clear: The CSWC Oliva cigar is born for greatness.

A Champion's Legacy Continues

We can already sense that this photo of the Danish champion is destined to become iconic.

In one of the most impressive performances ever seen in CSWC Denmark, Nick Shawnley defended his national title for the third time — and this time, it was truly historic. With a time of 2 hours and 17 minutes, Nick became the first man in the world to win both with the former Rocky Patel cigar and now with the new CSWC Oliva cigar.

That is not just a win. That is mastery. That is adaptability. That is the mark of a true champion.

And here’s one fascinating detail that can’t go unnoticed:

  • Nick’s winning time this year was 17 minutes longer than his victory in 2024 with the previous cigar.

  • Second-place Dennis Holme also improved by 15 minutes compared to last year’s performance.

Same competitors. Same hands. But a brand-new cigar — and even better results.

This speaks volumes about the performance of the new CSWC Oliva cigar and sets the stage for what promises to be one of the most exciting and competitive CSWC seasons ever.

Performance of the Cigar: Power, Precision, Perfection

All eyes were on how the new cigar would behave — and it passed with flying colors. In a room full of highly experienced Danish smokers, the feedback was overwhelming:

“Great draw, beautiful aroma and balance, few burning anomalies but overall it passed high expectations regarding construction ”

The Oliva CSWC – a beauty that has passed its first tests across many aspects, even under the scrutiny of demanding Danish competitors.

Even more important? The numbers. Over half the competitors passed the 1-hour mark. The construction stood firm under pressure — with only three ash penalties across 60 smokers. The cigar showed strength, elegance, and discipline — a perfect companion for the ultimate test of patience and control.

Salute to the Heroes Behind the Scenes

None of this would have been possible without the titans behind the curtain.

First, a heartfelt, thunderous thank you to Jesper Pettersen, the man who brought CSWC Denmark to this level and has stood as a pillar of the CSWC family for years. His dedication, energy, and passion were once again on full display — and this historic competition will forever carry his signature.

Over 60 competitors, along with special guests and spectators, gathered to witness and be part of this epic slow-smoking race — the very first official competition featuring the new CSWC Oliva cigar.

Standing shoulder-to-shoulder with him was the legendary judge Bo Brandt, whose precision and fairness set the standard for competitions worldwide. Their teamwork and professionalism turned this night into an unforgettable spectacle.

They were among the first in the world to taste one of 2025’s most anticipated cigars — the CSWC Oliva cigar — and their verdict was unanimous: it was more than worth the wait.

The Podium of Fire

2nd Place: The always-dangerous Dennis Holme, a cherished friend of CSWC, with a spectacular 2 hours, 1 minute, and 10 seconds.

3rd Place: Mads Goth Olsen, who impressively reached the 2-hour mark — though a burn ring forced a deduction to 1 hour and 45 minutes.

Still, Mads showed the cigar's capacity and demonstrated strong control — a performance that did not go unnoticed.

A new tradition is born — the crowning moment as the CSWC champion receives the prestigious Les Fines Lames Golden Medal Cutter, a symbol of ultimate slow-smoking mastery.
