Belgium’s King of Slow Smoking sets new national record – again!

With history on the line, all eyes turned to Belgium to see if reigning champion Marco Pareijn could do the impossible – win three CSWC national titles in a row. And not only did he rise to the occasion, he shattered expectations with a personal best time of 2 hours, 29 minutes, and 29 seconds, placing him provisionally in the global Top 3 of the 2025 season!

Organized by the ever-passionate Dinny and Amelie, the Belgian edition of the Cigar Smoking World Championship by Oliva Cigars was once again a masterclass in charm and tradition. Set in a majestic 18th-century Officers Club mansion that once echoed with the footsteps of WWI soldiers, the event offered an atmosphere dripping with character – the perfect setting for the “slowest race on Earth.”
Despite the strict public regulations in Belgium around smoking and advertising, the event gathered around 50 guests, with 30 participants eager to test their nerves, technique, and luck in the CSWC ring. With beautiful weather, a luxurious BBQ menu, a cigar bar, and fine spirits, it was a celebration of cigar culture at its best.

The competition began with excitement and high tension. While Marco’s pace appeared modest early on, the pressure cracked several contenders who took risky approaches and burned out. In the end, only five made it past the 90-minute mark, and Marco stood alone once again.
This stunning victory not only marks a national milestone but also puts Marco within striking distance of a Top 20 global finish—and possibly more—in Split this August. The Belgian flag might yet fly high on the world stage.

Special thanks go to Thomas Gonnissen, who lent his expertise as co-judge and charismatic “Speaker of the House,” and to the many sponsors whose support turned this into a truly premium gathering.
As the sun set on this historic day, one thing became clear: Belgium is no longer a quiet force in slow smoking—it’s a serious contender. With gratitude to sponsors and partners including S.T. Dupont, Tor Imports, Bosquet Paris, Les Fines Lames, Cuervo y Sobrinos, Intertabak, Fumar Lounge, Damat Tween, Cigar Journal, and many more—the event was a resounding success.
See you in Split, Marco. The hattrick is yours.
The world title? That’s next.
