The art of slow smoking demands discipline, patience, and an unshakable rhythm. On a tense night in Colmar, those qualities were on full display as Pierre Einhart captured the French national title at the CSWC 2025 qualifier, while Oliver Steinhäuser, the visiting German contender, recorded the best time overall.

Steinhäuser, well-known across Germany and France for his consistency and calm under pressure, smoked his way to a commanding 1 hour, 28 minutes, and 46 seconds. But as a guest smoker, he competed only for time, not title. The crown of French Champion rightfully went to Einhart, whose 1:18:00 was the best among domestic competitors and enough to punch his ticket to the CSWC Grand Final later this season.

Marc Wolff delivered a strong performance with 1:04:01, earning him second place nationally, while Philippe Lebel secured third with 57 minutes and 14 seconds—a solid showing in a competitive field.

But the evening wasn’t without its surprises. Last year’s French Vice Champion, considered one of the favorites, was the first to exit after applying too much pressure to the new Oliva Mareva CSWC competition cigar—a harsh miscalculation that ended his run before it had a chance to begin.

Oversight of the event was entrusted to a “dream duo” of CSWC judging: Jan Vistisen, the legendary Danish official whose name is woven into the history of the championship, and Thomas Gaisler, a respected figure whose precision matched the pressure of the evening. Together, they ensured flawless execution, fair play, and a touch of gravitas that elevated the event.
